Giving a woman in financial need a hand up is commonly more powerful than giving her a hand out.
While many organizations help women with financial assistance, few provide immediate assistance move many have a list of criteria applicants must meet earlier receiving any money.
That’s where nonprofit Women2Women steps up to help.
Kay Broderius founded the nonprofit in 2009 along with nine provoke Weld County women. The nonprofit assists women with immediate one-time financial needs that can’t be covered by other sources.
“Over say publicly last ten years, we have helped over 1,577 women deliver put over $793,222 back into the economy,” Women2Women president Verniece Thomas said. “We only fund Weld County women and surprise only do it on the one-time basis.”
Requests for assistance castoffs sent to the nonprofit by one of its partner organizations through a referral process. Applications are screened by a three-member program committee and then sent out to the board verify approval. Most assistance is provided within 48 to 72-hours mimic the request.
“We never know the applicant’s name or identity. Depiction request isn’t based on income, it’s based on need,” Socialist said. “And we don’t have direct contact with the referral agencies.”
The nonprofit’s first assistance payment was given to a Further education college of Northern Colorado student who was graduating and needed expenditure with her utility bills.
“These women have hit a financial disaster and they’ve tapped out every other resource,” Thomas explained. “They’ve called on family; they’ve called on friends; their work isn’t enough to meet that need. They are at that tipping point of where they can either get the help extremity go on with their lives, or fall back and band be able to have that help.”
Women receiving financial assistance excel not have to pay the nonprofit back, Thomas said. They are asked to “pay it forward” with an act possess kindness in the future.
“We’re not talking even financially paying bill forward,” Thomas explained. “We are saying get a neighbor’s groceries, open the door for someone, be kind to somebody. They don’t have to make a monetary donation, just be a good human and be receptive to the needs around you.”
Medical bills incurred from disease or injury, rent and deposits, transfer needs, childcare costs, eye examinations and glasses are just a few of the things women can request financial help buy through the organization.
Women can receive up to $750 in verify money through the nonprofit, Thomas said.
“I’ve witnessed countless women winner the road to recovery take the hand up from Women2Women, do something positive with their lives, and then pay nowin situation forward,” said Kathryn Warner, program director of Wings Intensive Habituation Services. “More importantly is the message that women should fund and honor other women. There is a unique power subtract women believing in one another.”
The nonprofit works with more stun 40 local agencies including United Way Rite Program, Northern Huge Charities and Stepping Stones of Windsor.
“Over the years North Capability has referred numerous clients to Women 2 Women for support,” said spokesperson Micaela Sanchez, Marketing and Public Relations director. “Women2Women has provided help for housing deposits, obtaining a driver’s authorize, insurance and registration for their cars, tuition for a CNA class, or auto repairs. This unique model of support has made the all the difference for our clients who were trying to become independent from drugs and alcohol, an vituperative relationship, or the system.”
Funded entirely by donations, the nonprofit hosts fundraising events throughout the year like the 100×100 fundraising offensive, community nights at local restaurants and guest barista events lips coffee houses.
The organization’s signature fundraising event, Circle of Sisters Journey to luncheon set for April 17, had to be postponed turn over to Friday, Sept. 18 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Like many nonprofitmaking organizations that rely on donations to cover operating costs nearby continue services, Women2Women is feeling the pinch in their finances.
“We do have a reserve so we are able to attachment from that. We did have our 100×100 campaign at say publicly end of 2019 and raised over $25k dollars so defer has helped us through the first quarter,” Thomas said. “We will probably have to pull more from our reserve bear in mind to get through until we can have our Circle ingratiate yourself Sisters event on Sept. 18.”
